Bio: Mom is writing this. Bob worked for 9 years for the same company here in Seattle as a welder. He was offered a job in CA with the same company which he jumped at as he’d always wanted to live there. He had a small apartment a block from the beach and rode his motorcycle as much as he could, learned to surf and was doing a great job of learning to play guitar. He’d already been playing drums for several years and had a band here in Seattle.
He then decided he wanted to do more than be a laborer so went back to school and got a degree as a medical assistant. Was looking for a job in that profession and decided he wanted more, thought he’d get his RN. Had just started in college for than when an idiot hit him on his motorcycle. He’s now brain injured and in a wheelchair. He was in the hospital and rehabs in CA for a year till I brought him back to Seattle.
His Dad died a year and a half later which was very hard on all of us. I took care of him here at home for 8 years then put him in Terry Home in Pacific. He now lives in a nursing home, Talbot, up by Valley hospital. He hates it there, all old people. Oh, and hates that he’s going bald!
In many ways he is still the same old Bob. The same weird sense of humor he always had. Still just sweet and funny and everyone loves him. He loves to watch DVD’s, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Foggerty, Led Zeppelin and all the old stuff. (The old folks don’t like it so they leave him clear down at the far end of the hall in a room by himself.) He’s bored there most of the time as he always did like to be on the go.
He’s had many health problems over the years and been hospitalized more times than I can remember. He’s supposed to have died more times than I can remember but, those of you who remember Bob, know what a fighter he is and he always comes back. Has been doing well for a while now. I take him out at least once a week if I can. I have a van with a wheelchair ramp now, thanks to a cousin who gave it to me. It’s made our lives so much easier and we can do so much more now that he can go in his electric wheelchair. I’m going to try to bring him to the picnic as I know he would absolutely love it! He tires easily but hopefully can stay long enough to see a lot of old friends.
See you in July.
