Gone, but not forgotten

Bio: Passed away March 2005 of medical complications due to an accident.

The only obituary published for Rick was in the Morgantown, West Virginia newspaper. The following was written by his sister and graciously given to us for posting on the Tyee Blog.

Richard L. Patton, II: Because of his love for all things electronic, after graduation, Richard (Rick) went on to both community college and vocational tech school for training for a career in TV broadcasting. In 1983, he moved to Juneau , Alaska , where he was hired as a master control board engineer for the public TV station, KTOO. After seven years, Rick suffered an accident which resulted in serious medical complications from which he suffered from for the remainder of his life. In the summer of 1991, Rick moved to Denver , Colorado where he worked at a local cable TV company. A few years later, he obtained medical disability status and relocated once again to first Akron , Ohio and then finally to Morgantown , West Virginia , where the Patton side of the family is from.  While in Morgantown , he spent much time in and out of hospitals and rehab centers. On March 24th, 2005, Rick suffered heart failure and passed away. He was then brought to Phoenix , Arizona and was buried next to his father, Richard L. Patton, from whom he was named. He is survived by his mother, Paula Patton, and his sister, Carron Patton. Throughout his life, Rick was always generous to others and would lend a hand in any way that he could to his friends.

  1. It was very sad to read of Richard passing . He and I did our graduation walk together, I rember Richards comment that of course I would get the shortest person in our graduating class to walk with …Ha Ha I said looking UP Richard @ 6 foot and me @4 10 1/2 with shoes on !!
