Let’s Go On A Cruise!!!

Our 30th reunion was a great success Get in on the ground floor. We are just putting things together and would love for you to join us. There has been some discussion among the 1979 Tyee Alum about organizing a cruise. About eight weeks ago an email was sent out asking if you would be interested in going on a cruise with your fellow classmates and friends in 2010 or 2011. I wanted to be sure to give everybody had time to respond before tabulating the initial interest. If you did not receive the questionnaire and have an interest in possibly going on a vacation with the Totem Clan, then please read on.

I took my first cruise in 1988 and since then have logged over 600 days on nearly every major cruise line. My partner took his first cruise on the Cunard CARONIA in 1951. In my opinion, it is the ultimate way to spend a vacation; especially in these uncertain times. Unpack once, choose how to spend your free time and there is no greater “Bang for your Buck” anywhere. Bigger ships are traveling to more destinations than ever before.. This combined with economic challenges can make a cruise affordable to everyone.  In addition, traveling with a group of friends can add a dynamic element that can never be re-created.

Out of the alum for which we had emails, 24 responded..  78% were either a definite yes or showed a high level of interest.  The group’s chosen destination were split between a cruise out of Florida to warm waters or the West coast. Cruises out of Hawaii and New York were at the very bottom so we are ruling these out for this cruise. West coast destinations are seasonally dependant so we will have to narrow down these choices further. The top three cruise priorities were, in order of preference:  accommodations, ports, food & entertainment. For this reason we will focus on selecting a newer ship with the least number of days at sea. All the newer ships have additional dining choices and, the larger the ship, the better the budget for entertainment.
